Going to be a challenge I think.

Amy plans to keep her grandson for a couple of days, the puppy may warmup quicker to a smaller person, but I'm afraid she may snap at him if he tried to pet her.

She's staying out more when I'm outside now, playing and digging holes in the yard gaah so maybe I will be able to pet her soon.

I bet when Maryland was a young boy they had to tie pork chops to his ankles to get the dogs to play with him.

When I was a kid we had two small puppies that were found in the woods near a friends house. They must have been born to a wild dog. We got them when they were very small, and they were the cutest dogs. They acted fairly normal most of the time, but when it came to their food they would try to kill eachother or anyone who came near them. It was hard for us to realize, but as cute as they were, they were basically wild animals. We tried for some time to 'train' them, but had to eventually get rid of them. It sounds to me that your situation might be similar. The dog seems a bit young to have developed a fear of humans through abuse. Anyway I wish you all the best, I know how challenging the situation can be!

Thanks mrclean2401, got pretty close to her today, but she backed off.
She really doesn't seem aggressive at all just shy and scared.

Sorry CD, missed your post too. I'm getting closer to her, but haven't got my hands on her yet.

Can you post a pic of her? Sometimes I can identify breeds by looking at them. (Comes from working at an animal shelter.) Sweet puppy is easily changed to Sweetie-Pie or Sweetie. (Unless you call your wife that!)

I think you're off to a good start, though. Keep at it, she'll come around!

Sorry NativeGatorGal, I missed this post.
I can't post a pic, but she definitely is part collie, maybe all collie, white and camel in color with sharp snout.

You may be exactly right about her mother. I saw a dog in the area that may be her mother, and see seemed very scared of humans.

When you get close to her again, keep her in your peripheral vision. Don't look at her head on, for now, as it will spook her. Did you name her yet?

I may call her sweetie-pie, she just looks like she could be really sweet.

Edit: I just fed her, and called her Sweetie-Pie. I felt kind of silly saying sweetie-pie outside. Red Face

What about Suzie? That's close to sweetie and I had a sister named Sue that really loved animals.

Perfect! Start off by saying sweetie Suzie, then shorten it to Suzie. Use Suzie-Pie as a special name.
