Because there was no injury. Ealey wasn't shaken up, he didn't miss a beat, didn't complain to the refs or sideline after the play. There was no proof of the alleged "gouging". For all we know he was picking Ealey's nose or poking him in the forehead. Did he stick his hand in his facemask? Yes. Did he gouge at his eyes? Only Spikes and Ealey know that. If Ealey would have had an injury on that play, even a watery eye, then yes Spikes should be suspended. Again, Ealey never specifically accused Spikes of "gouging" at his eyes nor was there any effect from the alleged "gouging". You can't convict someone of stabbing someone if theres no accusation or puncture wound. Only the media nimrods are the ones saying "gouge". But they are all assumptions. And if the SEC is going to start suspending players based on assumptions, then its going to be a long year. I'm assuming Meyer felt the need to do something because of the uproar. I'm also assuming that if Spikes was trying to gouge at his eyes, that Ealey would have been effected from it. Don't get me wrong, I do think it was dumb move by Spikes to stick his hand in there. Sorry to start another thread.. sick of the continued news on this.

According to a well respected poster, Ealey did mention to the media that we went after his eyes during the game. No need to address the rest of your points and no need to create another thread on this.

Spikes was suspended.

I don't even care how pathetic it sounds: I'd rather the Canez lose more games than see UF win another national title at this point. 2010 is coming no matter what so what does it even matter what happens in 2009 at this point?

If you have to put deadhorse at the end of your new thread's initial post, it's a good sign that you shouldn't have created it to begin with.

MODS - can we lock these threads please!?!

Only after a day or so of the national frenzy I thought. Did he say it right after the game?

The rules in the court of public opinion are far different than in the court of law. There obviously was no testimony from the victim nor was there anyone else who testified as to what happened. All we have is a video tape showing what happened. Unfortunately for Spikes the tape wasn’t at all too subjective or blurry. He was punished for the “act” shown on tape and not anything resulting from the “act”. Like I said in my previous post on this matter one game should have been handed down but I think one half is still adequate. People in the court of public opinion only need a perception that wrong doing is or has occurred not proof beyond a reasonable doubt. Still, those who are calling Brandon a dirty player for defending his teammates are idiots.

He was left off to easy, a 1 game suspension should have been the minimum.

Never quit. It is the easiest cop-out in the world. Set a goal and don't quit until you attain it. When you do attain it, set another goal, and don't quit until you reach it. Never quit.

Ha, I believe the subject manner was clearly stated in the title of the thread. Hopefully your finger didn't cramp up clicking on it, and sorry to take up so much of your obviously busy day..

I do realize that he was suspended, the "wasn't" was for the sec, the "shouldn't" was for meyer. yet i respect his decision.
