For the soldiers, their families and the civilians at Fort Hood in TX, as authorities strive to figure out what happened.

Thanx.

Considering that I just redeployed through Ft. Hood, and was at the soldier center, it is pretty eerie. Glad I am home now...

Glad you're home too! I don't think I know anyone there, (with deployments the way they are, there's no telling), but it just hits so close to home.

I'm way ahead of you Gator Gal, thanks for starting the thread, my prayers are sent.

It is difficult enough when our soldiers fall in combat, they should never lose their lives on an Army base in the middle of the US.

Just my view from Sec 47, Row 11.

13 dead, 31 wounded at the hands of an army psychiatrist that was apparently distressed about his pending deployment to Iraq. Men, women, military and civilian.

Shooter was finally killed. Amazing to me that in the middle of an army base with weapons everywhere, a guy could get that many kill shotss off before somebody took him out; especially somebody that wasn't even combat trained/hardened.

Sad day for a lot of families, Best wishes to them in figuring out a way to move forward.

I keep thinking about the wives and children of the returning soldiers. Waiting just a few hundred yards (?) away for their husbands, wives, fathers, children to return from the danger of a war zone...knowing that they are safe on American soil...and losing them at the moment of reunion....

Thanks.

I just got home. That was a hell of a day. The SRP site is down the street from my office. I ran by there during physical training this morning. Everyone that is deploying to Afghanistan or Iraq or redeploying from those locations goes through there. We get our immunizations checked, hearing, vision, dental, wills, life insurance, etc...

We have been on lock down most of the day. I had to have the first sergeants account for all 525 Soldiers in our battalion.

My son is stationed here and my wife works on the base and thankfully they were not involved in this madness.

The cousin of one of my Soldiers was killed in the shooting.

It took me an hour and a half to get out the gate when they gave the all clear. Unfortunately, I was on my motorcycle.

I have a feeling the media will be swarming this place tomorrow.

Sad situation for the defenders of our nation and their families. These brave soldiers prepare themselves for the battlefield. They certainly don't expect to be ambushed by one of their own.

I hope the families and friends get the support that they need to get through this terrible time in their lives.

God Bless.

Something smells about this...Arab name, dead now alive, other suspects arrested with no names released...

Prayers to the families of the victims and the wounded...what an awful thing, especially on home soil.

Even the Fox report, which I just read, doesn't mention until 2/3rds through the article that he was a Muslim who apparently they were investigating for writing web material supporting suicide bombers.

Bet Obama didn't mention it at all in his speech.

It is not hard to believe when you are stateside or in garrison you do not have your weapon. The only people on post who have a weapon are the Police.

Actually, that's typical military response. Little to no info released until hours later.

ArmyGator, I am so glad you and your family are okay. My condolences to the soldier who lost a family member to this madness.

Thanks everyone. We now have armed guards at various locations around the base. I expect it over in Iraq but not here in the United States of America.

Oh lord, does that bring back memories of living overseas. I hope y'all can stand down shortly. Husband went in early last night, as he knew Shaw would be chaos as well. Everyone was showing two forms of photo id, and every vehicle was being searched.

As a veteran and Army brat (baby cup has a Big Red One on it), these images and my memories of my own life on Army bases overwhelm me.

I have no concept how the living and loving God with whom I walk and talk every day can bring solace to all those suffering today, but I continue to pray with all my heart that he will. And my soul knows he will answer that prayer.

Nor do I understand how he can love and forgive such a sinner as the man who committed this horrible act, nor, for that matter, forgive such a foolish sinner as me.
But he does and that's why He is who He is, and it's why I continue to be his humble servant.

Fire, flood and evil are things of this earth, as are we. Rarely does the Lord protect us from these things, (there are only about five miracles in the Bible) but he will always walk with us as we endure them. He will carry us through them. I know. I have felt that warm, loving, comforting touch on my shoulder as I mourned the death of my first baby. I felt that reassurance again when my son was born. He told me that day that all was well and, 15 years later, I know that is true. God's fatherly love is real, as is His divine plan for our lives: To that I can and will testify.

Today so many of our brothers and sisters are walking through sheer agony. And my heart weeps.

Prayer
Snap Salute
Tear
