I knew some idiot LSU fans got a hold of Tebow's cell phone last year, but it wasnt until yesterday that I realized he was dealing with death threats. What's the matter with people. I get all crazy this time of the year also, but at the end of the day its just college football...20 year olds vs 20 year olds.
My question is this. What's the probability of some idiot fan really hurting someone like Tebow, or Moreno...or any big player in any conference? We pride ourselves on all this passion we display. Could you ever imagine some idiot who has probably never darkened the doors of the campus or the stadium really doing something stupid either for noteriety or for "school passion." Or maybe even for gambling reasons. |

I can't give you odds on this subject, but after last year, it did bring home to me just how much our players are icons to the average man. I'd hate it if any player, on any team, was hurt by a rabid fan.
I do hope there isn't a repeat of last year. Perhaps the fans in question, (and for the most part, I like LSU fans), have matured. ![]() It's great to be a Gator! |

Although you must take stuff like death threats seriously, I could see a scenario where a bunch of frats boys were sittin around, partying, drunk, and hopped up goof balls or whatever, saying "hey lets call this number I found for Tebow. Tell him we are going to take him out."
In the end it may have been pretty baseless. |

I think we've seen more violence from teammates than fans. Also, some programs have athletes who assault the fans more than the other way around.

All it takes is one looney so its definitely possible but not highly probable.

NONE! I was with the guy (lsu game) who apparently got the number. His cousin, somehow knew Tebow and shared his number. It was all in good fun. They tried call him while I was standing there, Tebow's Voicemail was FULL. BOYCOTT ALL ADVERTISERS ON THIS BOARD. DO NOT CLICK ON THEIR LINKS OR VISIT THEIR WEBSITES |

I think all threats have to be taken seriously. However, threats made against a young white college football player even by the most rabid college football rivals are probably nothing to worry about. The stuff that Hank Aaron went through, the racially motivated hatred directed at an athlete would be more of a concern to authorities. Usually anyone making threats of this type against an athlete or a performer is a stone cold coward.

I think that is a very touchy situation. Even if the calls to Tim may have been a drunken prank. These people if caught need to be dealt with publicly to send some sort of message. And show how wrong it is.
Personally, I had a UT fan literally try to run me off of I-240 in Mempis at 70mph, I guess because I had a bunch of gator magnets and flags on my truck. Had my daughter been with me at the time, I could have ended up dead or in prison, and a family destroyed. Over what? I for one believe this to be a very serious issue and especially believe that top calibur players like Tebow or Moreno who are talented enough to basicly single handedly dismantle and humiliate a team could be targets. I am as big an Idiot as anyone about my team. If ESPN was airing a gator checker match, I would be in my chair with a jersey on, slammin beers and screamin at the T.V. No matter how big a business it has become, at the end of the day when we all kiss our families goodnight. IT'S STILL JUST A GAME. GO GATORS! |

Obviously no one wants something like that to happen, and it would forever tarnish football in the south, imo.
That said, I can honestly say, if it were to happen, i could see it being an lsu fan, possibly a crazed alabama fan. Most SEC schools have a measure of respect for one another--no love, but not willing to do something like that--including, imo uga, au, and ut. I could not personally see something like that from them. But based on the "F___ Tebow" chants from the crowd, the phone incident, and personal experiences, lsu has the worst fan base in the SEC. I sat at the espn club over Thanksgiving weekend, watching the lsu/Ark game...and I sat right next to several people who openly spoke and laughed about knowing someone who had made one of the harrassing calls...maybe they they were lying, which makes it even worse that they would see it as something worth lying about...everytime Tebow was mentioned on TV, they would bust out with Tebow sucks, with theor kids at the table...very classy. Anyone who remembers the '94 lsu game at home remembers their band basically blocking ours on the post game route along Stadium Rd. I was 13 and was trying to meet my parents on the other side of the street. Not only would their band not let me (a kid) through, I actually got pushed and hit by several band memebers. I didn't really care at the time but in looking back, it blows my mind that someone in college would actually get into a scuffle with someone in their first year of HS. Bottom line, between the Port-o-Potty stories, the threats on Tebow's phone, etc., I would not rule anything out with lsu fans. It wouldn't be about money, imo, it would be about them generally being pricks. |

I used to be as rabid a fan as the next guy, and still am just keep it under control now. I would get SO p!ssed and upset if my Gators lost it would ruin the whole next week for me till Sat. One day a buddy of mine who at the time was in the beginning of battling with drug and alcohol addiction put thinigs in TOTAL perspective for me. YES we love our teams, but we have to realize that these kids are just that, 18, 19, 20 year old kids, how on Earth can we let someone that young affect how our entire week goes.
Don't get me wrong, I still HATE when our Gators lose, but I just don't hold on to it as much as I used to. I like to hope that last year was just a college prank that someone did, but at the end of the day, you can't take threats like that lightly. Really glad that nothing came of it! |

If someone in the name of UGA football would hurt a player from a rival team...it would be extremely difficult to ever regain the passion and excitement I have for college football..It would ruin football in the south and for the respective teams. |

I completely agree and hope that this never happens.
Personally, I think that these "threats" were just drunk college kids trying to get a rise out of an opposing player and that no real danger was ever present. |

It was not an isolated incident. Perhaps no one really inended to follow through with their threat. Maybe it started out as a simple prank call by a few and escalated. There were hundreds of text and voice messages a day throughout the entire week. I doubt they were all drunk. Some of the threats were directed toward doing physical harm to his Mom. They were so bad he wouldn't even let his dad read/listen to them. Given the staggering number of calls/text along with Joiner's enfamous antics that same week there's no wonder he says the LSU loss is his most disappointing. |

Not only were there threats toward his mom, they also knew the street name they lived on. It is my understanding that they no longer have the Gator mail box. |

When I was at UF, I remember hearing Travis Mcgriff's family would get these types of calls all the time.
