Just because he says it doesn't make it any less inexecusable, but me thinks this is him admiting it was retaliation. |

Or that it wasn't what it looked like. The "Why..." thread should not have been closed. Ealey said so!

No doubt because a) he knows nothing injurious really happened; b) he knows his teammates were doing the same thing; and/or c) Spikes has now threatened him with finishing the job.

I doubt this will do anything to quell the hand-wringing and moral outrage of all the haters out there. The local sports radio around here has been particularly nauseating.

I came out immediately and said this was a load of nonsense. There never was any evidence in the video or otherwise that any kind of gouging or wrongdoing took place.
The next time some of you become part of a lynch mob you may want to get the facts first and not jump to conclusions, especially if the person involved is one of your own. Spikes took one for team. I'm glad that everybody knows it now. Perhaps some of these sanctimonious people will appreciate what he's done for the Gators and that he came back this year risking injury instead of cashing in from the NFL. I always thought that among the You Tube hysteria and the media hypocrisy, that someone should go to the object of the event and get his take before any punishment was dealt out.
But nooooooo, shoot first, ask questions later. It is apparent in watching the video that no foul was actually committed and no damage incurred, although an attempt was made to do so (Spikes' own words). This may be the first time in cfb history that a player was suspended for his failure to commit a personal foul. __________________________ ***I can't remember a time when I was not a Gator.*** __________________________ |

As I said in my other posts on the Spikes issue those who have ever played football know very well what takes place in and out of pile ups. A linebacker sticking his hands in the face of another player isn’t unprecedented. If Spikes really wanted to injure Ealey’s eyes he could have easily. Ealey knew he wasn’t hurt because Spikes was just messing with him mentally which is what intimidation looks like in football. If Spikes had actually injured the man then we can talk. Those with weak stomachs who like to see players shake hands before games need to watch another sport.

To be fair, Spikes DID commit a personal foul just be sticking his hand on/through the facemask. That however is worth a 15 yard penalty...nothing more. And personal fouls are missed all the time. ![]() |

13 seconds left in the 3rd qtr...did anyone catch the left hand of GA #51(ironic) to Tim's facemask...remember Tim on the sidelines getting water squirted on his right eye after that hit?

WHY ON EARTH is it so hard for most bloggers on here to understand that it's not a matter of condoning or disapproving his actions?
It's football! You can lay out all the rules, speak all of the speeches, and point out every wrong-doing you see. It(and by it, i don't mean just eye-gouging) happens every week, on every team, and during every game. This was obvious and he should and was punished. Get over it already. lmao |

I'll leave the speculation to you all, but let's give credit...
Ealey's got Spikes back? What a classy thing for him to do. Rare. |

He's just trying to avoid true bottom of the pile outside the view of cameras punishment in Jax next year. ![]() |

Well the guy DOES play for Georgia. An eye gouge is probably nothing compared to the dirty things he's been taught to do

I am absolutely amazed that Ealey said that. I don't know whether to be ticked that he played dirty, or impressed that he stood up for Spikes. This season gets stranger and stranger.

Just guessing from the posts on here who couldn't find the top end of a jockstrap. Being surprised that there is eye gouging, nut grabbing and spitting in the pile just shows that you haven't spent 60 seconds on the gridiron. There is also a whole generation of the Bianchi/Greenburg/Kiper types who have never set foot on a football field. Cheerleader bandwagon types are nice, but their opinions about football aren't to be taken seriously. |

I'd like to hear yabba, Mr. SEC, and birdawg's take on this kid. Pretty classy act on his part.

I've been trying to tell the people here that think it was a horrible act that it happens all the time. Look at the quote above. He admits it happens. For those that really think damage can be done...you can't stick your fingers in a facemask and make a lot of contact with the face. The mask goes out pretty far. Those that think this was so horrible have never played football and don't know jack about what really goes on. ------------------------------------------ The Gator Sports Board .com - for Gator Sports news |

Sorry if this is MOM. I just watched the whole series where the incident occurred and Brandon and Ealey were going at it nonstop every play. Three plays before the incident Spikes tackled him and was on top of Ealey and Ealey through an elbow, go watch it. They were facemask to facemask on one other play. Ealey was giving and getting equally, although there was no excuse for what Brandon did and he has manned up and apologized. Two tough competitors who would not back down from each other and refused to be intimidated.
