I've been named executor of my Mom's estate. (Too long of a story to share.) As such, husband and I have needed to travel back and forth to Florida waaay too often lately. On our last trip down a few weeks ago, I glimpsed something puzzling. On I-95, in Nassau County, is a billboard about F$U. I didn't quite get a good look, (husband was doing 80 at the moment!), but one word stood out: UNCONQUERED.
Has anyone else here spotted that billboard? We have to go back to Florida the first week of April, so I'll definitely keep an eye out for it. Perhaps I can get leadfoot to slow down for a moment, so I can snap a photo to share. ![]() It's great to be a Gator! |

I believe they had that written on their pants last year for their "Black Out" game where they got the bright idea to wear all black for an afternoon game in August. And they lost. That was back when the fans started whining that it was too hot to attend afternoon games |

The saying is drawn from a Seminole Indian tradition that their tribe was never "conquered." Thay may be technically true - most were relocated to Oklahoma against their will and the remainder were holed up in the Everglades. No one really cared to slog into the swamp to round them up. Unconquered.
That is a small chapter in the long, sad history of American treatment of our native peoples, not very well known. It has become the centerpiece of their PR - and probably helps them retain the Seminoles' approval of using them as their mascot. If you see their ads during games that's the punchline, they have a statue with that under it now, etc. Watch this board and you will see farksters having loads of fun with it. There is an element of poetic justice in F$U upholding a rather obscure piece of lore to promote their football program while it is on the decline. They are "unconquered" to about the same extent Bobby is "coaching." "You know much that is hidden, O Tim" "Quite" |

Well their commercial mentions that doing wonderful things with magnets...
My guess is we'll soon be hearing about their new discovery that "like poles" repel each other and if you try to put them together it can be very difficult. |

Maybe the Seminole's should have a real Seminole as their mascot instead of a white college student...Isn't that a little disrespectful?

Maybe FSU should have a real Seminole play Chief Osceola instead of a white college student...Isn't that a little disrespectful?

Thought it was a rhetorical question...
Seems like you really want an answer. So yes, it's disrespectful. |

No real Seminole would want to be associated with that institution. The Native American's have already suffered enough having their land taken and being forced from their homes...now you want them to be forced to support FSU? That's just mean. |

that billboard is indeed bad. but that commercial is much worse and i find it funny how everytime they show that cheaply made commercial here in tallahassee it is then followed by the UF commercial every single time. i cant help but laugh. the commercial for fsu is so lame that i have to mute it when it comes on.

Are they going to implant metal plates in their athlete's heads and electro-magnetize their end zones? |

It may have. As I said, Leadfoot (husband) was doing about 80 at that moment, and I didn't quite get a good look at it. We're going back down to Florida in a few weeks I think, so I'll keep an eye out for it again. ![]() It's great to be a Gator! |

I love how they put one on I-75 just south of Gainesville. Are they trying to prove something? Talk about wasted billboard space. 90% of the people running that corridor daily are gator fans.
