Hey Sportstalk,

The Orlando Magic need to find a way to offer a big contract extension to Hedo this offseason.

In today's NBA, I believe you need three allstar caliber players in order to be a championship contender.

SA - Duncan, Parker, Ginobli
Detroit - Billups, Hamilton, Wallace

I think you can get away with only two allstars, like Miami - Shaq and Wade, but I think today's standard has become 3. That's why Boston has their big 3, why LA got Gasol, Phoenix got Shaq and Dallas got Kidd (though these aren't all working out).

Anyways back on topic, the Magic have Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu. Hedo only make $5 mil a year (tons for you and me, but a bargain in the NBA). He is a free agent after next year, which is why I believe the Magic must lock him up with a lucrative extension this offseason before he becomes a free agent.

Now you know I've been critical of the Lewis signing. I'm not critical that we signed him, just that we gave him $20 to $30 million more than we had to. We should have saved that money to throw at Hedo or someone else.

Anyways, I'm just hoping Otis Smith does something good here for a change, but just like always, I don't have a lot of faith in the Tragic.

Hedo is having a monster year...I don't know if he is worth Rashard money, but we definitely need to keep him.

Rashard isn't worth Rashard money. He's worth a lot of money, but not that much if you ask me. From the talent of the Magic this year, Hedo should be our second highest paid player. I'd guess he deserves about $10 million a year (though I don't know the NBA market right now).

I love Hedo as much as any other Magic fan, but he needs to be traded. He plays the same position as Rashard and if he could be traded for a good SG, Orlando would have a legit lineup with Tony Battie coming back.

His stock will never be higher than it is now....might as well strike while the iron is hot.

The thing is, Hedo is having his monster year because of Rashard. Not many teams are able to guard both of them at the same time, let alone trying to double Howard down low. The Magic overpaid for Rashard, but they wouldn't be having the season that they are without him.
