What if:…
A phone call from Slive to Meyer 2 weeks ago: Slive: Hey Urban, this thing with you and Kiffen is getting kind of crazy. Meyer: Yeah, I don’t know what his problem is. I tell you, I just ignore him, but he is just an a$$. Slive: Yep, I figured that one out. You know I am going to have to do something, to let him know I mean business. Meyer: Yeah I know Mike. You just let me know if there is something I can do. Slive: Say Urban, what do you get paid a year? Meyer: 4 mil. It’s public record why? Slive: 4 mil huh? How much would you pay to get Kiffen to shut his trap? Meyer: Ha, I don’t know…Say $30,00. Slive: You guys play Georgia next week don’t you? Meyer: Yeah, what’s this all about Mike? Slive: Urban, I got a proposition for you… Out of every 100 men, ten shouldn't even be there/Eighty are just targets./Nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle./Ah, but the one,/One is a warrior,/And he will bring the others back. -HERACLITUS, circa 500 BC |

Well, I see the coach at New Mexico has character.... the soccer player who played dirty was suspended indefinitely for her actions. It is good to see a coach who has scruples and will do the right thing. Too bad Florida doesn't have the same attitude. Poor Coach Meyer....has to pay for his words....it's still appalling that SPIKES hasn't been suspended INDEFINITELY...actually for the rest of the season....for his assault on the GA player. Win at all cost Florida!!! It seems that the kharma you now have going for you isn't too good right now!!! And, you precious little gator fans wonder why the rest of the country calls you THUG U now!!!!

I once left a dollar under the green plastic flap on a Publix shopping cart as a surprise for the next person that used that cart...just for the heck of it. ____________________ Good night, Westley. Good work. Sleep well. I'll most likely ban you in the morning. |

I can hear Slive's phone call to Mr. Meyer. "You know Urbie....I screwed up when I didn't have the intestinal fortitude to do the right thing and suspend SPIKES for his assault on that GA player....so I had to make it seem like I was coming down on you hard....just to shut up the rest of the country. We screwed that one up Urbie....and I knew you wouldn't mind a measly little 30 grand fine if it got the attention off of SPIKES and put on you. Sorry Urbie...but not to worry...I still have my Tebow panties on....I'll try to make it up to you and Timmy before the season is over. You guys just do your thing and I will make sure that the refs know that your gator thugs get all the good calls....oops, I forgot....they already know that, Urbie."

This works out to, like, two days pay for Meyer.
It would be like fining CaneThing $1.87, plus whatever his mom gives him out of her tip jar. _____________________________________________ "This is one of the best teams in the history of college football." -- Urban Meyer |

Now that's plain hilarious - stupid - but clever. Just giving you props for your sense of humor and ability to write. Thanks for the laugh. |

Well, Jeb, you might have a leg to stand on with the assault. Due to their characteristics, GA DAWGS are considered a protected class under the civil rights act. They need as much protection as they can get. Other than that, mighty unoriginal. Darn, that was painful. |

The truth is simple and everybody knows it. Spikes reached in Ealey's helmet. Spikes was suspended a half. Ealey said Spikes shouldn't be suspended. Spikes took a full game suspension. Meyer violated an SEC rule. Meyer was fined $30,000. While everything above can be argued subjectively and with much conjecture, the TRUTH is in the finality of the decision makers. What's done is done. You don't have to agree with it or like it, and the less you do, the more joy we derive from your little tantrums. Go blaze and chill somewhere, like in the middle of a busy intersection, if dirt roads have such a place. |

I agree to a point, mtn2top. As a sports official, when you are in the moment, you are making calls on instinct. 90% of the time, you see the call and make the call with almost no thought. That is where rookie umps get into a problem. Just like a player that has to "think" an ump that is thinking is going to be slow and will open himself up to issues. With that all said, we are also human. If I have a guy chirping at me constantly, his strike zone may change a bit. Not consciously, but it does happen. There is a guy in one of my leagues that is really really good. BUT, he is a real jackass. He knows when I am on the field, he keeps his trap shut. I will run him in a heartbeat. BUT, last Tuesday he was involved in a very close play at second. He was under the tag and I called it as such. Instict takes over and you make the call as you see it. In between games, my good friend said "I was surprised you did not ring him up there, I know how much you love that guy..." The key to your post is the "legitimate call" part and you are spot on. It would not suprise me if UT starts getting called constantly for things that a football official normally give some latitude (sideline infractions, holding, etc). ![]() As a dreamer of dreams and a travelin' man, I have chalked up many miles... Read dozens of books about heroes and crooks, and I learned much from both of their styles... |
