This is an opportunity for you to put your money where your proverbial snout is. Here's the deal, you have stated that the Vols will go 4-8 this year. Remembering how you pretty much nailed our record last year, I nevertheless challenge you to a friendly wager. You have said this will be our schedule this year.
09/05/09 vs. Western Kentucky WIN 09/12/09 vs. UCLA LOSS 09/19/09 at Florida LOSS 09/26/09 vs. Ohio WIN 10/03/09 vs. Auburn LOSS 10/10/09 vs. Georgia LOSS 10/24/09 at Alabama LOSS 10/31/09 vs. South Carolina LOSS 11/07/09 vs. Memphis WIN 11/14/09 at Mississippi LOSS 11/21/09 vs. Vanderbilt WIN (barely) 11/28/09 at Kentucky LOSS That's 4-8. I say that the Big Orange will go as follows: 09/05/09 vs. Western Kentucky WIN 09/12/09 vs. UCLA WIN 09/19/09 at Florida LOSS 09/26/09 vs. Ohio WIN 10/03/09 vs. Auburn WIN 10/10/09 vs. Georgia WIN 10/24/09 at Alabama LOSS 10/31/09 vs. South Carolina WIN 11/07/09 vs. Memphis WIN 11/14/09 at Mississippi LOSS 11/21/09 vs. Vanderbilt WIN 11/28/09 at Kentucky WIN 01/01/10 Bowl Game WIN Thus, I have Tennessee with a 10 win season including the bowl game. Given the large disparity of our predictions, let's say that each one of us gets a two-game swing. Meaning, if Tennessee wins 8 games or more, including the bowl game, I win the bet. If Tennessee wins 6 games or less, you win the bet. If Tennessee ends the season with 7 wins, the bet is a wash. The stakes are these: Whomever wins the bet gets to pick the other person's screen icon and they have to keep it from the day that the outcome of the bet is decided until the first game of next season. By screen icon, I mean the place where you have that cartoon of the ox looking at the computer. Obviously, the choice screen icon would have to be non-offensive (i.e. not vulgar, etc.) So, what will it be, oxy? |

I'm all for this wager, but the terms seem a bit silly. Needless to say, I post quite a bit more than you and this is my team board. No offense, but you aren't a huge rival contributer on this board (this would carry a lot more weight if you were someone like Alvin York). Hence, it seems my punishment would be a lot more severe than yours if you won.
Let's even it out. If you win, I'll use whatever avatar you wish (which I assume will be UT related) for three months from the day the outcome is decided. If I win, you have to use the avatar until the first game of next season (which is 8+ months). This whole thing may seem stupid, but my avatar means a lot to me - it's something I would never change on my own. If you agree to these terms, you're on. ___________________

While I think that Tenn will get more than 4 wins, somewhere around 6. Dreaming 10 is ridiculous. They only way I think Tenn could get 8 is because they will probably play a crappy bowl team if they are lucky enough to get 6 or 7 reg season wins.

Welsh Gator brings up a good point. Does a bowl game count? Based on the original bet, it would appear bleedsorange is only referring to the regular season, but I think this should get clarified now to avoid arguements later. |

How in the world do you think UT is going to win 10 games with that horrible offense? And the answer isn't because of great defense because UT's defense was great last year.

UT a 10 win season in 09??? How are they going to get by UCLA in the first game with no QB? Their defense (meaning Eric Berry) will have to do most of the scoring.

I hope you are aware that your best (only?) WR may be out for the first few games. If I were you, I would be concerned about the Ohio game as well. Franck Solich >>> Lane Kiffin |

I threw UT a bone on the 4 wins. A 1-11 or even 0-12 season isn't out of the question.

My money's on Ox. The 10 win scenario is a total suspension of reality.

Ox, my personal opinion...
Drop the Bowl game from consideration. If by some miracle ut goes 7-5, they'd probably get a pretty weak opponent in something like the Gaylord Musice City Bowl. If--emphasize IF--they make it through that schedule with 7 wins, they will beat whomever is placed in front of them from the Acc. Therefore, given that your prediction is not solely based on how bad ut is, but is also relative to who they have to play, you can't make a logical bet with an unknown variable. I say no bowl game icluded. Just looking out for you. ______________________ New Addition To Gator Nation...6lb, 6oz Boy! |

I accepted the Bowl game, because I don't think UT will even win enough games to be eligible for one. If UT actually wins 8 games (including the bowl) then I deserve to lose the bet because I will have wildly underestimated their abilities. ___________________

You should be wagering on how many times UT gets shut out.
They better have someone who can kick a long field goal. |

Fair enough. Btw, how sad is it for all of us who watched this rivalry in the 90s to now see a "I'll bet you ut makes a bowl game this year" thread, started by vol fans themselves. Then you go about 4 or 5 threads down and it's "fsu band smack". What has the world come to? ______________________ New Addition To Gator Nation...6lb, 6oz Boy! |

I agree that ox has no shortage of cajones. I think that the bet will be fun and that we'll both be a little off. FWIW I think that the over/under on Tennessee's wins this year in Vegas is 7.5

Just one more clarification: when you say Tennessee will win 10 games this year, you're not using binary numbers, are you?

Yes, Russ...after it leaves the first page. For the moment it needs exposure.
By the way Russ, you make it sound like there are dozens of immortalized threads in there. There's one thread. ___________________

Ox, I think you win the bet no problem. But if the horrible happens and somehow you lose you would have to look at Kiffen's mug over and over and over again. Scary thought, I think I would rather send a finger in the mail!!
