Spike should be suspended by the conference, but don't worry, Meyer has Slive in his pocket.
The bottom line though is that Spikes' actions were too much and the line crossed too far. And, most importantly, he was caught red-handed (no pun intended). |

Yes Spikes should know better for sure. If you think this stuff doesn't happen alll the time then you haven't ever played football against a hated rival. Heck we were doing that stuf back in the 50's and 60's.
If he were caught he should of had a personal foul called against him. Since hre wasn't we need to move along kiddies. If we had the opportunity to go back and see all the tackles over again we would probably see a lot of this crap going on. Coach need to take Spikes aside for some counseling on how to play the game fairly. If you people who are so outraged by this behavior then make sure you drive the speed limit at all times too. Both are about breaking the rules and both are punishable when caught doing so. Operative word is caught "doing" so. |

Hey, moron, it isn't assault... it's payback. Clearly you didn't see all the BS Spikes was subjected to before he finally cracked back on those pathetic losers. Try getting slammed in the back by Ealey after a play was over on UGA's very first drive... that started the first scuffle that the refs had to jump in on. Then, Spikes gets his helmet yanked off on the very same drive, again after the play was over. Later, he gets his helmet knocked off, and a UGA player hits him in his bare head with his helmet; again after the play was over. Then, Ealey spits on Spikes right before Spikes decides to take offense and do what he did to Ealey. I'll tell you right now, if I was as big as Spikes, and all that happened to me, I wouldn't have stuck my fingers in the facemask, I'd have broken his pencil neck. I guess I just don't have the temperment for the game; but the only thing I can say about Spikes' actions are that he shouldn't have sunk to their level and retaliated that way. I can't condone that; but he did take an awful lot of BS and dirty plays himself before he decided to do it... and those are just the plain facts. |

"Assault" is usually treated as a misdemeanor. For "felonious assault", you'd have to be making a claim of "aggravated assault", which isn't substantiated by the facts at hand.
If the evidence supported aggravated assault, I'm sure even more folks would be calling for his suspension. But the evidence supports intimidation in the alleged assault, which is a misdemeanor in the "real world" and is a personal foul in the football world. However, since this is getting blown out of proportion, it's not inconceivable that the SEC might choose to suspend Spikes for violating SEC rules for unsportsmanlike conduct, without being a lot more specific. My guess is that Foley and the SEC office will talk, and that UF will impose a 1-game suspension for this breach of the UF standards for conduct among athletes, rather than force the SEC's hand in doing so. I see nothing wrong with this, though I also believe it could have simply been an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty within the scope of the game as well, had it been seen by the refs. |

Spikes should be thrown off the team for such blatent behavior and possibly ending a fellow football player's career by this unfounded attack on this player. This cannot be condoned by the SEC or any other conference. This guy is obviously a thug.

First, I do not defend Spikes it was a **** move. BUT, his helmet was ripped off on UGA's first play and he came up rubbing HIS eye. Tebow later grabbed his eye in the second half. The game was chippy all the way thru with lots of jawing and bumping from UGA's guys before and after the plays. During, it was all UF. UT fans, stop running hole just because you managed to win one as opposed to just losing by a little. You know like Leonard DUI Little. Or Dante just a little homicide Stallworth.
