No One Called Cops During Gang Rape, But Some Took Pictures - School Officials Say It Was Parents' Job to Prevent Homecoming Gang Rape

An official with the school district where a 15-year-old girl was brutally gang raped outside the homecoming dance said they were praying for her recovery but also defended school security, saying that when the students leave the dance, "we don't take them home."

Police in Richmond, Calif., believe that as many as 20 people may have either watched or participated in a vicious rape of the Richmond High School teenager that lasted for more than two hours in a dimly lit corner of the sprawling campus.

Rather than call for help, some of the students took pictures, police told ABC's KGO-TV in San Francisco. KGO reported today that police have arrested two suspected rapists but believe that between four and seven people could have participated while as many as a dozen stood and watched.

West Contra Costa Unified School District spokesman Marin Trujillo told ABCNews.com that there were four police officers, five chaperones and a host of teachers to supervise the dance, and that when the event was over a sweep was made of the campus to make sure everyone had gone home.

KGO reported that police were called only after someone who was not at the scene heard people talking about the attack, which was still going on.

Police officers found the girl semi-conscious, curled up near a lunch table.

A Richmond High School student told KGO that the school was not safe at night.

That is seriously twisted. I hope they catch all 20 and put them in with in prison where the real punishment will begin.

See the last thread I started on the use of flogging in Saudi Arabia. I was WRONG, maybe there is a place for that sort of punishment in society.

I think TJ's statement about the tree of liberty has merit.

Darn, that was painful.

And notice the school is passing the buck for on school ground security.Nobody wants to take responsibility for anything anymore.Possibly because there will be a lawsuit waiting for you.

Something needs to change from the attitude of the kids perpetrating this stuff to the school and parents.I guess a parent has to drive their kids home from a high school dance now for them to be safe.

These perps need to be signed up for mine clearing duty in Afghanistan.Either that or designated hostage swap.

I'll go with the hostage swap. How about just dropping them in Pakistan/Afghanistan and see if they can find their way home.

Although, the way justice is served in this country, it'll be another 10 years before we'll wrap these cases up.

That is actually my plan to get new viewers (like me) to finally watch Survivor. Have it be REAL Survivor. Dropping 10 Americans with American flag jackets into Waziristan and see if any of them can make it home alive.

I'm pretty sure that that American kid who was caned in Indonesia for grafitti 10 or 15 years ago NEVER did it again.

One of the most fascinating things I learned about at UF (or ever) from Dr. Hank Pennypacker was in regards to the "Principles of Punishment" and how we do our criminal justice system COMPLETELY backwards of how we should punish people.

Does anybody know where Richmond, CA is? In close proximity to Oakland, my birthplace also known as Chocolate City West. It was at one time a very pretty place. Hasen't been that way for decades now. Richmond is mean city right across the bay from San Quentin. It has always been known for it's violent crime and gangs. Mainly Latinos and Blacks. I am so soory that things like this happen anywhere. They are just more likely to happen in places like Richmond more often.

Richmond is just to the north of Oakland... the Richmod Bridge connects over to San Rafael in Marin. It is a dodgy place these days. All the Chevron stuff is there too.
